An Arts & Crafts crescent brooch in sterling silver, attributed to Dorrie Nossiter.

Five cabochon moonstones run along the crescent in open claw mounts, among hand-stamped vine leaves and tendrils with bead clusters at the horns. The stones carry the blue adularescence of Ceylon moonstone - the sheen that moves across the cabochon as the piece turns.

Dorrie Nossiter (1893-1977) was among the most distinctive English Arts & Crafts jewelers, working in silver with clusters of cabochon stones among stamped leaves and wirework. Her jewelry was left unmarked, and her pieces are attributed on the strength of that unmistakable vocabulary - the crescent brooch among her recurring forms. This brooch is unmarked, as her work is, and is attributed to her on its construction and design.
